Deciduous tree creates a tall dense canopy of leaves
Highly fragrant light yellow flowers.
Leaves:
Serrate, coarsely irregular, cordate base.
Simple, alternate.
Medium to deep green above, light green underneath.
Bud: lopsided, scaled with one scale markedly enlarged
Flowers: highly fragrant drooping clusters of light yellow flowers with long pale green/yellow bract in July
Popular street tree.
Pests: aphids and leaf chewing insects.
Aphids create sugary syrup on leaves which grows a black fungus.
